qUALITY CLIMBING SHOE RESOLING IN THE HEART OF SOUTH WALES

South Wales Resoles provides hassle-free ways to give new life to your climbing shoes.

There are three ways to get your shoes to us…

  1. DROP-OFF BOXES. These are located at Up & Under, Boulders, Flashpoint Cardiff & Swansea, TCH Swansea, Dynamic Rock and Summit Centre. Simply purchase the necessary service on this website then attach a tag (found inside the box) to your shoes before leaving them in the box.

  2. POST THEM to South Wales Resoles, Unit K3, Britannia Centre for Enterprise, Pengam, NP12 3SP. Return postage costs £4, remember to add this to your cart before paying.

  3. WORKSHOP DROP OFF. We’re always happy to welcome climbers to the workshop so if you live nearby and want to drop off directly, feel free but please call ahead on the number found at the bottom of this page.

how does it work?

“But my shoes are not Scarpa or La Sportiva”…

NOT A PROBLEM!

You might have a pair of shoes that sport the Vibram name on the sole but are not Scarpa or La Sportiva. There are other brands that use Vibram rubber (Tenaya, for example), they are only authorised to use XS Grip so if you have one of these shoes then guess what, you’re in for an upgrade! You might also have a pair of shoes that use an “in-house” rubber compound (like Evolve), just pick the rubber that suits the type of climbing that your shoe is geared towards and you’ll be good-to-go!

South Wales Resoles uses Vibram rubber. The two compounds available are XS Edge and XS Grip 2. These compounds are factory standard and exclusive to Scarpa and La Sportiva and are arguably the best rubber compounds in the world of rock climbing!

“So which rubber is right for me?”

For Scarpa and La Sportiva, I recommend replacing the rubber like-for-like. An exception to this rule lies within low volume and “women’s” shoes. They are often manufactured with XS Grip 2 rubber when the “men’s” version comes with XS Edge (Scarpa Instinct, we’re looking at you!). My personal favourite shoe is a Scarpa Instinct VSW with XS Edge rubber, a shoe that isn’t available off-the-shelf.

For shoes other than Scarpa or La Sportiva, just consider the type of shoe and its intended style of climbing (e.g. edging in vertical terrain, grabbing footholds in a roof) and choose accordingly. If you are still unsure and would like some advice please contact me or, choose the ‘I don’t know’ option in the cart, and I will choose the best rubber for your shoe.
